Frequently Asked Questions

What will the service be like?

Sunday morning at Noank Baptist Church is the cornerstone of our church life. Services strive to balance contemporary concepts of spirituality with our worship traditions of more than a century. Our service usually includes congregational singing, instrumental and choral music, prayer, meditation, biblical reading, a sermon, and often a ritual such as communion, child dedication, and baptism. Sermons present challenging and practical messages relating to one's wholeness, spiritual growth.

What should I wear to church?

Dress and casual clothes are the norm at NBC. For example, people may choose to wear shorts and a short sleeve shirt during the summer or khakis, shirt and sweater in the winter. So feel free to wear or leave the suit and tie at home!

How long are services?

Our Sunday service typically lasts about an hour.

Will I be singled out in any way as a visitor?

At NBC you will never be put on the spot, never feel forced to give money and never embarrassed. You won't be asked to participate in the offering. You don't have to sign anything or register your attendance in any way (unless you place your child in our children's ministry and then only for your child's security). Let the service be a gift to you.

Where do my kids go during the service?

Church School classes for young people through Grade 12 are held during the 10:00 am worship hour on Sundays from September to mid-June. Children join us in the sanctuary for the first 15 minutes. During this time they are invited to come down front for Children's Time. Afterwards, they follow the teachers downstairs to church school. Our teaching volunteers include many professional educators whose skills make it possible for us to welcome and accommodate children with special needs.

Can I attend a class after the service?

Yes you can. The classes are listed in the bulletin each Sunday. You are welcome to step into any class we may be conducting at the time.

Can I leave right after the service?

Yes you can. Or you can join us afterward for a cup of coffee or tea during our casual fellowship in the parlor where friends reconnect and visitors can become acquainted.

What kind of Christian church is Noank Baptist Church?

We are an American Baptist Church. We are by choice, activist and traditionally tolerant of other beliefs. This combination promotes a long tradition of reaching out to others to collaborate in addressing community problems and concerns. We respect and value diversity evidenced by our commitments as a welcoming and affirming congregation, and our ecumenical and interfaith partnerships.
