American Baptist Churches, USA

The American Baptist Churches USA is the second largest Baptist convention in the United States.  In the 19th century, it was called the Northern Baptist Convention, following the split that created the Southern Baptist Convention in 1845. Today, the ABCUSA consists of nearly 6000 churches and 1.5 million members with its Mission Center located in Valley Forge, PA. The denomination is evangelical, ecumenical, mission and service oriented, and currently is the most diverse (ethnically, culturally, theologically) mainline denomination in the U.S. The Boards of International Ministries and National Ministries sponsor many of the denominational programs, while the 34 Regions (e.g., ABCCONN) assist more directly the local churches in ministry.
